The Courier
A wandering supplier often mistaken for a messenger in the Spire's halls.
There is no canonical Card or Relic officially named 'The Courier' within Slay the Spire. This designation often arises from community colloquialisms referring to The Merchant, the wandering NPC who supplies climbers with potions and relics. While players sometimes jokingly refer to him as a messenger delivering goods up the Spire, official game text and lore identify him solely as the Merchant.

Lore & Background
While no official courier service exists within the Spire's lore to communicate with the outside world, The Merchant fills a similar logistical role by replenishing resources. Some speculate he knows the climbers' paths intimately, appearing exactly when supplies run low, yet his true origins and motives remain as obscured as the Spire itself.
In Their Own Story
The Ironclad rested at the campfire, scanning the dark corridor for a sign of help. He expected a runner from the capital to bring orders or news. Instead, the flickering light revealed only a masked figure with a cart full of strange trinkets. 'No letters today?' the knight asked. The Merchant merely gestured to his wares. In the Spire, survival is delivered in vials and relics, not words.
Reader's Guide
Since no card or relic exists under this name, strategy focuses on The Merchant's actual offerings. He sells potions like Strength Potion or Potent Poison, which provide immediate combat advantages without occupying deck space. Relics available for purchase vary by act but often include utility items like the Acorn or Book of Stabbing.
Deck-building should account for gold management to afford these purchases. Prioritizing early-game gold generation allows access to powerful mid-game relics from his stock. Do not expect a 'Courier' card effect; any reference to this name in fan discussions usually implies trading with The Merchant.
